City of Detroit Lakes Community Information - Transportation


The Detroit Lakes area has an excellent transportation system, providing ready access to local, regional and national markets.
Highways
HighwaysU.S. Highway 10 and 59 and State Highway 34 provide direct links to Minneapolis/St. Paul, Duluth and Fargo/Moorhead metropolitan areas. Highway 59 connects with Interstate 94 approximately 40 miles to the south of Detroit Lakes, while U.S. Highway 10, a four-lane highway, connects with Interstate 29 and 94 about 45 miles west of Detroit Lakes.
Railroad
Detroit Lakes is on the main line of the Burlington Northern, Sante Fe, and Soo Line Railroads. The City's Industrial Park features a rail line spur which provides shipping links for material and products in all directions.
Bus Lines
Detroit Lakes is served by the Greyhound Bus Line.
Airport
The Detroit Lakes/Becker County Airport has a 4,500 foot lighted runway, a full-time fixed base operator, hangers and maintenance service to accommodate a full range of commuter aircraft. Charter service is also available at the airport. Scheduled air service with daily flights via Northwest and United Airlines are available at Hector International Airport in Fargo, North Dakota, a one-hour drive from Detroit Lakes. Airport elevation: Southeast end - 1361.1, Northwest end - 1396.0
Truck Transportation
11 carriers. Specialized equipment includes refrigerated, open top, van, and U.P.S. daily service.
Transit

Clay County Rural Transit (CCRT) - Provides Commuter Bus Service to Fargo-Moorhead.
