Detroit Lakes Planning Commission
The Planning Commission is a 9-member board which is advisory to the City Council.
The major responsibility of the Planning Commission is to develop and implement comprehensive growth management plans for the City. The Commission also develops tools such as Land Use Plans, Capital Improvement Plans, Zoning Ordinances and Subdivision Ordinances to guide growth and ensure compliance with the Comprehensive Plan.
As part of its duties, the Planning Commission reviews subdivision plats and holds public hearings on proposals for zoning changes, conditional use permits or variances. The Commission makes recommendations to the City Council to approve or deny such proposals based on compliance with the City's Comprehensive Plan.
