Detroit Lakes, MN, EducationThe Detroit Lakes School District #22 encompasses an area of approximately 327 square miles with a population of 14,827. The School District serves over 3,200 students, from pre-school through Grade 12. In addition to the traditional K-12 program, the District operates a community education program, a pre-school program, and serves as host district for area school's special education handicapped students. The School District also participates in a regional cooperative service agreement for services varying from low incidence special education needs to specialized high tech computer services.

Seventy-five percent (75%) of school graduates attend post secondary schools following graduation. The Detroit Lakes School District is one of 108 schools nationwide to offer the International Baccalaureate Program, a rigorous college preparatory program in which students may earn college credits after passing an international exam.
The Detroit Lakes School system includes three elementary schools, a middle school, and a senior high school. Students throughout the District are bussed to various schools on one of the District's thirty (30) bus routes.

Post-Secondary Education

The Minnesota State Community and Technical College in Detroit Lakes is a Center of Excellence for Technical and Flexible Education.

MSCTC-Detroit Lakes is part of a four campus college, and is a member of The Minnesota State College & University System. Classes are offered by the semesters, with starts in the Fall, Spring and Summer.

 

Enrollment is just over 800 students, in 22 different on-campus programs/majors.  Students may also seek a 4 year degree through agreements set with SW State University and/or Mayville State University.  MSCTC through Minnesota Online.

 

Food Service is available on Campus, and also Daycare provided through the Mahube Agency.

 

Student Organizations include - Student Senate, Skills USA, and the Beta Pi Psi Chapter Honor Society.
