On behalf of the City Council and the citizens of Detroit Lakes I would like to welcome you to our community. Detroit Lakes is located in the gentle rolling hills of the West Central Minnesota lake country. With the combination of adjacent prairie, woodlands and lakes it makes an ideal place to live and work. In addition to the beautiful setting we have a top rated school system, excellent medical facilities and recreational opportunities abound.

Detroit Lakes has achieved the status of a Star City in Minnesota due to the economic development programs that have been established by the Detroit Lakes Development Authority. Our economic base is sustained by a good combination of light manufacturing, Tourism and Agriculture.

Detroit Lakes is home to the Northwest Water Carnival, The Pine to Palm Golf Tournament and two very successful music fests, The WeFest and Spirit Fest. These are just a few of the many attractions in Detroit lakes. We would encourage you to take some time to explore this website and all aspects of our community.
