| Detroit Lakes Library
Club |
| Established in 1908, the Library Club meets on
the fourth Tuesday of the month for programs on a variety of literary and fine arts
topics. Membership is $2.00 per year and open to any interested person. All programs,
however, are free and the public is cordially invited to attend. |
| Detroit Lakes Public
Library Fund |
| The Detroit Lakes Public Library has received
generous support from a wide community of users since the day it was first envisioned. The
Library was first established in 1907 by men and women who wanted to improve the
educational, cultural and literary life of the community. |
| A generous grant from the Andrew Carnegie
Foundation in 1913 provided for the first building, which continues to be cared for and
used by the residents of Detroit Lakes. |
| Community support in the form of general
obligation bonds and private fundraising allowed the expansion of the Library in 1989. |
| In 1990, following in this tradition of
community support, the Detroit Lakes Public Library Endowment Fund was created as a way
for our community to maintain a Library of excellence. |
| The Fund is a community fund within the West
Central Minnesota Initiative Fund. The Library Advisory Board is composed of
representatives from the Detroit Lakes Public Library Board, the Detroit Lakes Library
Club, the Becker County Friends of the Library, and the Detroit Lakes Librarian. |
