Residents and visitors are proudly
protected by the DLPD - 24 hours a day/365 days a year. Our agency
serves a modern and growing community of around 8000 people with the seasonal
summer population being much higher. Presently our
department consists of 17 full-time employees including 15 sworn Police Officers and 2 civilian
clerical workers. We have an average of just over 10,000 calls for service each year.
We are one of the few Law
Enforcement agencies that still provides a full range of services to our
community from unlocking cars and funeral escorts to assisting with all
fire and medical emergencies.
We also work very closely with other
Law Enforcement agencies in the area. The
Becker County Sheriff's
Office provides Law Enforcement coverage for the unincorporated
areas of Becker County, patrol and rescue operations for county lakes,
and maintains the county jail facilities.
The
Minnesota DNR
handles wildlife, fishing, hunting, and other recreational activities
such as ATV's and snowmobiles.
The Minnesota State
Patrol enforce traffic and vehicle laws on area highways,
investigate vehicle crashes, and inspect commercial vehicles. State
Troopers also provide special enforcement teams
during busy times of the year such as WE Fest and the 4th of July.
It is this combination of
professionalism and teamwork along with the citizens of Detroit Lakes that
helps to make our community a safer and better place to live. As our community continues to expand
each year, we will continue to
strive updating our department with personnel and resources as
needed to ensure the same high commitment and quality of service to
public safety and security.
Our site is
