| The last few years have been
one of many changes within our agency and the near future looks to
continue this trend.
Older equipment has gradually been updated with more modern gear such as digital cameras and
X-26 Tazers assigned to each Officer. New personnel have also been
needed over the past few years as senior veterans retired or others
moved on to better opportunities.
'Veteran' employees Investigator Linda
Livingston retired in 2006 and Captain Paul Goecke followed the trend in
2007. You can read about these and other memorable people, awards, and
memories from our agency in the
memorial section of our website.
Many other changes occurred in 2007
including the assignment of two new Sergeants and a new Drug Task Force Officer
funded from a grant. It is the hope of many within the department that
new supervision may lead to increased morale within the department and
that such direction be fair, proper, and unbiased. Only time will tell.
As we enter 2008, Sergeant Tim
Eggebraaten is trading his uniform in for a suit to work in the
Investigations division. Long-time School Resource Officer, David
Shawstad, has returned to the Patrol division and rookie Officer, Beau Shroyer, has taken his place in protecting and serving our district
schools. Ann Watson - our records tech resigned in April and a new
friendly face, Laurie Erdall, has been hired to become our new records
tech effective May 1st.

In the next few years, the City of
Detroit Lakes will be significantly changing as well. The reconstruction of Highway 10
along with portions of Highway 59 and a new underpass at Roosevelt & Highway 10
has already begun. The new
"Gateway District" to the downtown area is under development
and many new businesses are opening their doors such as Menards, Urgent
Care, The Lodge and Spa on Lake Detroit, and more. The city limits
continue to expand and our challenge will be to keep up with finding the
extra space, funding, resources, and new Officers to meet the demands of
our rapidly growing area.
